My Summer Homework is Kanji

I just wanna be literate, and I’ve been going at it the wrong way for many years. Baring a private, daily Japanese lesson (which I’d love to have) I have to study on my own.

Finally I’ve found a website that has the stroke orders for the kanji I need to study. Thank you beautiful people at kanjicards.org!

Goya Champuru

Made it the first time tonight, and it rocked – thanks to brown sugar and our hidden stash of katsuobushi. If you don’t have dried bonito flakes dancing on top of your steaming hot tofu, pork, and goya, it ain’t worth it.

I watched this video, deleted the onion, but still nuked the tofu.

I wanted to just chuck everything in but I think it’s worth frying the tofu in some oil and removing it to harden it up a bit. I also just chucked in the egg at the end, but doing it and removing it certainly would make it look a lot better. Sorry – no picture.Screen Shot 2016-05-12 at 9.01.32 PM.png

Fort Mac Wildfire

Fort Mac has been through Hell.

Elizabeth May came out too soon and in the wrong direction. She had to backstep some thoughts. She really is passionate about her party, but someone should’ve tempered her thoughts with more time, more sensativity, or both.

That’s why since I’ve come across this sincere gem, and since it’s been at least a week, the conversation should begin.

The wildfire may become the most costly disaster in Canadian history.

What’s cooking America

I’m always on the lookout for recipes, recipe sites, and better ways of doing things in the kitchen. This site looks like it might have something for everyone, so check out What’s Cooking America.

Non-stick pans

I love cooking with our T-Fal set. Glad they were approved by this kitchen, too.

Why Disneyland?

The lines are long today at Tokyo Disneysea. We’ve been waiting 3 hours so far. Severely unconvinced of the reason people come here, although it does support a long-running thesis of mine that a majority of Japanese people are masochists.

Be forewarned: only one kind of beer on sale, it’s what you think it is, and you not allowed to drink in line. Don’t ask me the price.

Allergy drugs

Hurray for generic drugs!

Just bought some allergy meds with the main ingredient pseudoephedrin. Japan doesn’t have any issue whatsoever  regarding the cooking or abuse of what can be made from this over-the-counter medicine. If you don’t know, watch Breaking Bad again.

After reading the Wikipedia article, it’s a good thing I’m not competing in the Olympics this week. I’ll let you know of any adverse/peculiar effects.

Self-checkout

I just came back from My Basket, our local convenience store/micro-supermarket. I put the products on the counter and told the cashier that I didn’t need a bag (I always use my backpack). Then I used my prepaid Suica card.

That guy did nothing for me.

I suppose in the future robots will stock the shelves, and no-one will need to be there…
